Louise Dubé - Eastern Townships
I have been playing since 1976 and, very quickly, golf became my favorite sport and hobby. Around the year 2000, some of my friends started talking and saying that I should get involved in course rating. Back then, there was a serious lack of volunteers in that area of expertise. I convinced another friend to join the group with me and contacted Mrs. Geneviève Renault of Golf Québec to let her know that we were available and willing to help. In the process, my friend became ill with cancer and had to pass on the offer. Nonetheless, in 2002, Mrs. Renaud called me back to inquire if I was still interested to work with her team and I decided to accept her offer.
Following a one-day training session presented at Club Hériot in Drummondville, six of us decided to get involved furthermore with the Course Rating Committee. Through the years, Geneviève (Renault) and Nancy Spineti Delle Donne dedicated a lot of their personal time and knowledge to give us proper training. Today, three original members of this group are still active: Sylvie Gagnon, Michelle René Jutras and I. As well, a fourth participant recently celebrated her 10th anniversary with our group. Currently, our team is composed of 7 volunteers and we truly enjoy working together.
Rain or shine, in the scorching heat of summer or cold days of the off season, we are rating courses. Nothing can stop us and we never refuse to go out on the course. I genuinely love my group of course raters and it is always a pleasure to see them, even if our last activity was only a few days before. As I am getting older, I am also planning for the succession of our team. I’m not worried about the future, our team is competent and we are all accomplishing our tasks joyfully.
