Anne-Léa Lavoie Successfully Defends Her Title

Debbie Savoy Morel Cup - Get the complete results

Montréal, June 30, 2025 – Anne-Léa Lavoie (Royal Québec) took the lead in the Debbie Savoy Morel Cup in the first round on Saturday and remained at the top until the very end. The 20-year-old athlete finished the competition, presented in collaboration with belairdirect, with a score of 145 (+3) to win the top honours of the event for the second consecutive year in the amateur qualifying category.

“I was a little nervous because it was my first tournament in almost two months. I was eager to play. I'm happy to have defended my title, but I keep telling myself that this isn't the end of the world; it's still a beautiful process,” said Anne-Léa Lavoie.

One of the highlights of Lavoie's weekend came on the 11th hole of the first round when she carded a hole in one. The athlete's family, who had travelled from Québec City for the occasion, reacted strongly to this feat.

"I had 141 yards to go, I took my 8-iron. The ball landed right in front of the hole and bounced in! Everyone cheered; it felt great, but then you have to refocus and get back to your game, and I think I was able to do that well. It warms my heart that my family is here, and they all contributed to today's victory," she added.

Mackenzie Cloutier (Le Blainvillier/Québec team) finished second with a score of 147 (+5), while Léonie Tavares (St-Raphaël) completed the podium with 149 (+7).

The competition was extremely fierce in the senior qualifying category, with everything coming down to a long putt on the 18th hole by Hélène Chartrand (Summerlea) to clinch the victory, just one stroke ahead of defending champion Suzanne Ricard (Royal Montreal).

Chartrand and Ricard both had excellent rounds on Sunday, shooting +1 (73) and par (72) respectively to bring their cumulative scores to 150 (+8) and 151 (+9).

“It's a surprise victory because I didn't expect to win another tournament ever! My game has been pretty shaky since the beginning of the season, but I took a lesson with Denise Lavigne this week and I think that really helped me,” said Hélène Chartrand.

“I had no idea what the score was. I was focused on my game, hitting the ball well and sinking my putts in two shots. If I had known that I was only one shot ahead of Suzanne, I might have choked. It was a great weekend playing with good friends.”

This is a fourth Debbie Savoy Morel Cup triumph for Hélène Chartrand, who previously won in 2016 and 2023 in the senior category and in 2013 in the amateur category.

A four-time winner of the event, Marie-Thérèse Torti (Vallée du Richelieu) finished third at +11 (153).

In the amateur and senior participation divisions, Marie-Pier Desroches (Montcalm, 61) and Louise Boivin (Épiphanie, 62) won under the Stableford playing format.

In addition to Mackenzie Cloutier, Mia Poirier (Victoriaville), Sofia De Zordo (Balmoral), Alexandra Botsis (Rosemère Fontainebleau), Gracelyn Xiao (Rivermead), Shinyao Zhang (Rivermead), Charlotte Boudreau (Île de Montréal), and Justine Emond (Le Blainvillier) represented the Québec team at the Debbie Savoy Morel Cup.

Golf Québec staff will be back on the course on July 7 with the presentation of the Duke of Kent tournament at the Royal Québec Golf Club.
