Josh Mayo Records a Hat Trick

Provincial Indigenous Golf Championship - Get the complete results

Montréal, June 10, 2025 (Sportcom) – Winner of the Provincial Indigenous Golf Championship presented in 2023 and 2024 in collaboration with belairdirect, Josh Mayo (public golfer) completed the hat trick on Monday, in the third edition of the event held for the first time at Cornwall Golf & Country Club.

While he needed six playoff holes to confirm his first victory in 2023, Mayo was more expeditious this year, becoming the only player in the men's amateur to card a one-under-par 71 (-1) thanks to a successful birdie on the 18th hole.

Trent Thomas, from the Cornwall Golf & Country Club, took second place, playing par (72), while Terrell Thomas, also from the host club, finished third at +6 (78).

Frank Phillips (Caughnawaga Golf Club) won the senior men's event with a +7 (79).

One could expect a fierce competition in the women's amateur category featuring Kahsennenhawe Sky-Deer and Traci Martin, both of the Caughnawaga Golf Club and winners of the first two editions of the Provincial Indigenous Golf Championship.

With a 5-stroke lead, France Kurtness (Saint-Prime sur le Lac) came out on top with a round of +17 (89). Sky-Deer and Martin followed in a tie for second place (94, +22).

Josée L'Ecuyer of Club de golf Lotbinière won the senior women's title with a score of +18 (90).

While Josh Mayo and Frank Phillips also placed first in their respective categories in the stableford competition, two different winners were crowned in the ladies' event. Kahsennenhawe Sky-Der won in the amateur division, while Jennifer Jacobs (Caughnawaga Golf Club) captured the senior title.

The Golf Québec staff will get back on the road for the Provincial Mid-Amateur Championship to be held June 16-18, at the Windmill Heights Golf Club in Notre-Dame-de-l'Île-Perrot.
