Record Participation at the Assante Optimiste Classic

Assante Optimiste Classic –
Montréal, June 2, 2025 – With 263 athletes, the Assante Optimiste Classic welcomed a record number of participants last weekend at the Glendale Golf Club in Mirabel. Ceilidh Spare (Rideau View Golf Club) and Alexis Rouleau (Lanaudière/Québec team) were the two stars of the event in the overall division.
After carding a 77 (+6) on Saturday to take the lead, one stroke ahead of Alexandra Lemay (Ki-8-Eb), Spare continued her momentum in the final round to seal the victory. Her second round of 77 (+6) gave her a total score of 155 (+12), five strokes ahead of Lemay.
Three golfers tied for third place at 161 (+18): Sofia De Zordo (Balmoral/Québec team), Alexandra Botsis (Rosemère Fontainebleau/Québec team), and Zixuan Tan (Public Golfer Program).
In the boys' competition, Rouleau was outstanding in the first round, shooting a 69 (-3), and never looking back to finish the weekend with a round of 72 (+1) for a total of 141 (-2).
Behind him, Oscar Ricketts (Beaconsfield/Québec team) took second place at +1 (144). Édouard Laflamme (Cap-Rouge) and Loic Lacroix (Saint-Michel) tied for third place at 148 (+5).
Thanks to their victory, Ceilidh Spare and Alexis Rouleau will have the opportunity to participate in the OPTIMIST International Junior Golf Championship in Miami, Florida, in July. This privilege was also granted to the winners of the other categories.
In the girls' event, Catherine Dumoulin (Club Laval-sur-le-Lac) captured the bantam title, while Amy Ma (Public Golfer Program) and Ziqi Tan (Public Golfer Program) did the same in the pee-wee and mosquito divisions, respectively.
Lennox Chaif (Le Versant) won the boys' bantam category. Owen Copp (Ottawa Hunt & Golf Club) was crowned in the pee-wee division, while Édouard Marchand (Vallée du Richelieu) took home the victory in the mosquito division.
Also noteworthy is the participation of members of the Québec team Charlotte Boudreau (Île de Montréal), Mia Poirier (Victoriaville), Shinyao Zhang (Rivermead), Charles-Edmond Proulx (Vallée du Richelieu), Charly Pinel (Bellechasse), Mikaël Coupal (Vallée du Richelieu), and Thomas Grenier (Thetford).
Golf Québec staff are still on the course with the presentation of the Men's Provincial Match Play Championship, which continues until Tuesday, June 3, at the Heriot Golf Club in Drummondville.
