The Québec Golf Federation (Golf Québec) is celebrating the International Volunteer Day
by honouring Jim Davidson as its 2024 Volunteer of the Year.

Montréal, December 5, 2024 – Jim Davidson has been sharing his passion for golf as a volunteer for over 15 years. He has held a variety of operational and administrative positions, helping to support and grow a sport enjoyed by athletes from all walks of life.

Jim has been a member of the Ottawa Valley Golf Association (OVGA) Board of Directors for the past 10 years. As their Director of Player Development between 2017 and 2022, he was instrumental in developing the OVGA’s Regional Junior Tour (RJT) and establishing an Introduction Tour (IT) for new players. As a major contributor to the OVGA’s Strategic Plan, Jim has also spearheaded the organizations’ support for First Tee – Premier départ, Girls Golf, and winter learn-to-play programs. Collectively, these initiatives are a cornerstone for junior golf in the Outaouais and Ottawa Valley region, and a source of pride for Golf Québec.

The OVGA’s Junior Development Team was launched in 2017 and Jim acted as its’ manager for 5 years. Based on other provincial and national programs, this program provides additional support to the top golfers in the region and includes elements such as skill evaluation, course management, physical training, rules education and practice rounds. Based on the teams’ performances at provincial and national events, it is clear that the region is rich in young talent on the road towards excellence!

As a long-time referee, many Golf Québec members have had the opportunity to rub shoulders with Jim in a multitude of tournaments and championships, whether at the regional, provincial or national level. His commitment to raising awareness of our sport's rules led him to serve on Golf Québec's Rules Committee between 2016 and 2024. Although he has recently passed the torch on this file, we will now find him serving on the Golf Canada Rules Committee.

In recognition of his generous efforts to develop junior golf and advance our sport, the 2024 Volunteer of the Year award will be presented to Jim at Golf Québec's Annual General Meeting to be held on February 19, 2025.
