Luc Guilbault and Félix Bouchard Recapture Their Titles
The Whitlock Golf and Country Club hosted a colourful Men's Match Play Championship from June 3 to 5! Luc Guilbault and Félix Bouchard were the two athletes crowned in their respective categories at the end of the competition.
The tournament, presented in collaboration with belairdirect, began in an interclub format with groups of nine players. Each player faced six different opponents, with the two leaders from each group moving on to the next round, played in a traditional match play format.
Luc Guilbault regained the title he won two years earlier at Le Drummond golf club. His first three victories enabled the public golfer to reach the grand final in the senior category, where he came up against François Bissonnette (Le Blainvillier). In the end, he prevailed by a score of 3 & 2.
Michel Daneau (Continental) won the consolation flight's final by 1 up in the same category, beating Claude Panneton (Le Parcours du Cerf).
A similar story to that of the senior champion sums up Félix Bouchard's amateur journey. Like Luc Guilbault, the Richelieu Valley Golf Club representative triumphed in 2022. He regained the trophy with a 2-1 victory over Alexandre Mercier (Le Blainvillier) in the grand final.
This was Félix Bouchard's fifth victory in as many matches in the competition.
Félix-Antoine Levasseur (Ki-8-Eb) won by a score of 3 & 1 over Daniel-Ange Morency (Montcalm) in the consolation bracket.
Golf Québec staff will now turn their attention to the Mid-Amateur Provincial Championship, also presented in collaboration with belairdirect. This will be the 27th edition for men, with 96 participants, and the 18th for women, with 24 golfers competing. The tournament will be held at the Hawkesbury Golf & Curling Club from June 17 to 19.
