Honorary Co-Presidents of the Fundraiser Tournament

An event in tribute to Patrick Rhéaume | Royal Québec Golf Club – September 18, 2023

Montréal, June 19, 2023 – The father and son duo, René and Julien Proulx, will be Honorary Co-Presidents of Golf Québec's 16th Fundraiser Tournament on September 18 at the Royal Québec Golf Club. It will be much more than a regular charity event; it will also be dedicated to paying tribute to our friend, former golf coach, and Golf Canada Regional Director, Patrick Rhéaume, for his impact on the golf community.

Since 2006, René Proulx, FCPA, has been President and CEO of Exceldor Cooperative, a Canadian leader in the poultry industry with sales of some $1.5 billion and more than 3,500 employees. Like many parents, he has actively supported his son Julien in his sporting development throughout his career as a junior and amateur golfer where he was coached, of course, by Patrick.

"It is with great pleasure that my son Julien and I have agreed to serve as Honorary Co-Presidents of Golf Québec's Fundraiser Tournament on September 18. On that day, a tribute will be paid to Patrick Rhéaume, who has devoted more than 30 years to the development of golf in Québec and Canada. I've known Patrick for almost 25 years, and Golf Québec couldn't have found a better ambassador for a fund that will support young Québec athletes in their development as golfers and as people. Patrick has relentlessly instilled in the athletes he has worked with the values that have always driven him: respect, discipline, commitment, perseverance, honesty, humility, and so on. As a result, I am extremely proud to be associated with the launch of the Patrick Rhéaume Fund," says René Proulx.

Julien Proulx, an actuarial graduate, is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (SOA) and the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (CIA). He also holds the CFA designation. Julien has competed on Golf Québec's junior and amateur tours and was a member of the Université Laval Rouge et Or golf team for four years (2008-2012), winning two Canadian team championships as Captain.

"It's a great privilege to be chosen as Honorary Co-President of Golf Québec's 16th Fundraiser Tournament, along with my father, who has been my greatest supporter throughout my golfing career. This edition will be very special as we honour Patrick, a coach who has made a huge difference in my life and in the lives of many golfers in the province of Québec. The creation of the Patrick Rhéaume Fund will also enable several athletes to pursue their dreams, while ensuring that Patrick's contribution to the development of golf in Québec continues to be recognized," says the son.

What impressed me most about Patrick was that he wanted to make exceptional human beings out of every one of his athletes. Working with him helped me to develop both on and off the golf course, and to become someone who is serious, committed, and very structured in the projects I undertake, and has contributed greatly to becoming the person I am today. It was therefore natural for me, having benefited from the unconditional support of this great man, to be involved in these initiatives," concludes Julien Proulx.

PATRICK RHÉAUME FUND

After 31 years of dedicated work in the golf industry, Patrick Rhéaume was recently diagnosed with ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis). Following this news, Patrick was determined to leave a heritage to the golf community. Having been involved as a coaching professional for many years, as a tournament organizer, and as Golf Canada's Regional Director for Québec, he wanted to be able to offer a legacy to the young golfers of Québec.

So, Patrick and his circle of friends set up the Pat Rhéaume Fund. The aim of this fund is to support athletes whose commitment to their sport reaches a remarkable level and is on a par with Patrick's commitment to everything he has done for the industry. Six bursaries of $2,500 will be awarded annually to Québec golfers at the regional, provincial, and national levels.

During the Fundraiser Tournament, a number of former athletes-golfers will pay tribute to Patrick. A silent auction will also be held to boost the contributions collected over the course of the season.
