Proud of His Victory, Luc Guilbault Intends to Build on His Success

Men’s Provincial Senior Championship – Get the complete results

Boucherville, August 18, 2022 – A man of few words, Luc Guilbault (Drummondville) found it difficult to hide his pride moments after winning the Men's Provincial Senior Championship presented in collaboration with belairdirect this week at the Boucherville Golf Club.

He had every reason to be happy. Leading before the final round, Guilbault played exceptionally well on the last day of the competition, shooting a -6 (66) to clinch his title. The Drummondville native had been in control of the Championship since the first day and ended the week with a cumulative -3 (213).

"I am very happy! This is my first victory in an event with so many participants. It's one of those days where everything goes well. I didn't miss a single shot, everything ran perfectly," he said.

"I've been waiting for a victory like this for a long time. I've often been my own worst enemy when it comes to confidence. It all came together this year, I pushed my limits and I'm very proud of myself."

Guilbault was also crowned at the Men's Provincial Match Play Championship in early June. Even if he is very satisfied with these two victories, the winner of the day wants to stay focused on the important tournaments that are coming up for him.

"In my age group, it's been an almost perfect season so far and I hope it continues in the coming weeks. I have three big events coming up and I'm heading into them with a lot of anticipation," he continued.

Brent Rebus (Ottawa Hunt & Golf Club) finished second at +3 (219) with a strong third round. Éric Paquin (Ki-8-Eb) was third at +6 (222).

In the Super Senior division, Michel Roy (Royal Québec) was the best golfer in his category with a cumulative score of +14 (230).

Team Québec: Éric Paquin, Luc Guilbault, and Brent Rebus

Guilbault, Rebus, and Paquin each earned a spot on the senior team that will represent Golf Québec at the Canadian Senior/Super Senior Men's Championship to be held at the Red Deer Golf Club in Alberta from September 6 to 9, 2022.

"If I am able to maintain my momentum, my expectations are pretty high for the Canadian Senior Men’s Championship. I finished second last year, so this year I'd like to be able to move up one more spot," concluded Guilbault.

The Golf Québec team will now turn its attention to the Graham Cooke Junior Invitational on August 20 and 21 at Golf Château-Bromont, while keeping an eye on the performances of Quebecers at the Canada Games, which run until August 20 in Niagara, Ontario.
