Laval, July 27, 2022 – Athletes from the Laurentians started the Québec Games on a high note on Wednesday at the Club de golf St-François in Laval. The region won two medals and is at the top of the overall golf rankings after the first day of activities.
Representing the Laurentians region, Jimmy Galbraith and Samuel Bourget were victorious in the bantam category (13-14 years old). Alessandro Fragnito and Oskar Ricketts, from Lac St-Louis, completed the podium in the bantam division with a silver medal tied with Charly Pinel and Philip Bélanger from the Capitale-Nationale.
No less than ten golfers also reached the podium in the juvenile division (15-16 years old), a category won by Rowan MacDonald and Samuel Fontaine from the Outaouais. Silver went to Charles Authier and Émile Cauchon from Richelieu-Yamaska. Three regions shared the third step of the podium: Centre-du-Québec (Léo Beaudoin Labrecque and Vincent Laperrière), Saguenay-Lac St-Jean (Mathias Bouchard and Robin Benoit) and Est-du-Québec (Mathys Dubé and William Bellavance).
The day was completed by the Côte-Nord's girls' victory, who took the gold thanks to the brilliant performance of their golfers Louanne Aubin and Mercedes St-Onge. Silver went to the Rive-Sud region represented by Élizabeth Dufresne and Seanna Wang. Rose Morisset and Sofia De Zordo gave a bronze medal to the Laurentians with their third place in the girls' event.
The action will resume on Thursday morning at Club St-François, with the two-person Vegas. Friday will be devoted to the traditional individual stroke play.
