Coming Up in June

Montréal, May 25, 2022 - Golf Québec's competitive season is now well underway. Again, in June, amateur golfers will be very busy with the presentation of numerous events throughout the province!

Women’s Tournaments - registration

The Women's Provincial Tour presented in collaboration with belairdirect will officially take off as the Women's Provincial Mid-Amateur Championship will take place at the Bois-Francs golf club from June 14 to 16. We will be able to follow Marie-Thérèse Torti (Vallée du Richelieu) who has captured the title four times (2004, 2007, 2016, 2018) and whose induction into the Québec Golf Hall of Fame will be celebrated on May 31.

Subsequently, on June 20, the ladies will have the chance to compete at the prestigious Mount Bruno Country Club where the Debby Savoy Morel Cup will return after the cancellation of the last two editions. Once again, Marie-Thérèse Torti (Vallée du Richelieu) will defend her senior title. This event is part of the Jocelyne Bourassa Series where the Order of Merit is used to identify golfers who will be exempted for the women’s amateur and senior Canadian championships. The evening will end with a dinner and a special presentation in memory of golf legend, Jocelyne Bourassa.

Finally, from June 28 to July 1, 2022, Golf Château-Bromont and the City of Bromont will be the scene of the ORORO Women's Championship of the PGA of Canada, which will be organized by Golf Québec and the PGA of Canada and will welcome up to 156 players. In addition to competing for the Lorie Kane Trophy, the winner will be offered a coveted exemption to the Canadian leg of the LPGA schedule, the CP Women's Open. Our amateur golfers will have the challenge of meeting a very high level of golfers.

Men’s Tournaments - registration

After the Spring Open, the Men's Provincial Tour presented in collaboration with belairdirect will bring competitors to Le Drummond Golf Club for the presentation of the Men's Match Play Championship from May 31 to June 3. Danny Turbide (Royal Québec) will be there to defend his senior title acquired in 2020. A new format will also be noticed this year. The first flight of the event will be comprised of an interclub-style competition where players will be divided into groups of nine to play three rounds within two days. The third day of the event will be dedicated to the traditional match play competition.

Starting June 6, many Quebecers will try their luck on the American stage in the qualifying rounds of the U.S. Open and the U.S. Amateur.

Here, after two years of absence, the Men's Provincial Mid-Amateur Championship will make a long-awaited return to the Bois-Francs Golf Club from June 14 to 16. The Québec amateur team will be identified for the interprovincial competition of the Canadian Men's Mid-Amateur Championship.

To conclude the month, the Alexander of Tunis tournament will be held at the Rideau View Country Club on June 27 and 28. This is the first leg of the Men's Triple Crown where the Order of Merit is used to identify the Team Québec members for the Canadian Men's Amateur Championship. The participation of the defending champion, Christopher Vandette (Kanawaki/Team Canada), has yet to be confirmed.

Juniors Tournaments - registration

The junior season will continue this month with the qualifying rounds for the Québec Summer Games presented across the province.

Golf Québec will then bring its young competitors to the Pee-Wee and Bantam Classic presented on June 11 and 12 at the Ste-Marie golf club. This tournament will return for the first time since 2019.

In the girls’ division, a qualifying round for the US Junior Amateur and the US Girls' Junior will be held on June 22 at the Timber Ridge Golf Course in Brighton, Ontario. Several Québec prospects will be competing.

Afterwards, the Québec Next Gen Championship fueled by JOURNIE Rewards will be presented by Golf Canada at the Hemmingford Golf Club from June 27 to 30. It is a 54-hole event with a maximum of 156 boys and girls under the age of 19. New this year, after 36 holes the field will be cut to the top 50 junior boys and top 20 junior girls, including ties.

RBC Canadian Open - information and tickets

For this year's RBC Canadian Open, the best players in the world will compete on the course at St. George's Country Club in Toronto. The event will be held June 6-12, a week before the U.S. Open. Maroon 5 and Flo Rida will headline RBCxMusic concerts at this PGA Tour tournament. Rory McIlroy will defend his title won in 2019 with a cumulative of -22.
