Bromont, August 22, 2021 – Hugo Denis (Mirage) and Yasmine Qureshi (Lorette) experienced a dream weekend at Golf Château-Bromont, where the Graham Cooke Junior Invitational was held. The two athletes brilliantly overcame the many challenges of the course. This allowed them to be crowned in the 17th edition of the tournament which ended on Sunday evening.

In his final year of eligibility as a junior, Hugo Denis started his tournament on a high note with a round of 70 (-2). This led him to tie atop the leaderboard with Mathieu Chouinard (Lorette) and Félix-Antoine Levasseur (Godefroy).

Familiar with the fairways of Golf Château-Bromont, Denis maintained his momentum on Sunday to distance himself from his opponents and capture the coveted title.

"I am very proud of myself! It's been a bit of a tough season for me this year, but I've managed to play well here. I like the course, I always enjoy playing it, and I'm quite satisfied with the result. It's a good way to end the golf season and my junior career," said the young man after the competition.

In the end, Hugo Denis completed the Graham Cooke Junior Invitational at even par (144), just ahead of Guillaume Paquette (Gray Rocks). Paquette shot 70 (-2) to close out the tournament and move up four spots in the rankings to finish second in the category at +1 (145). With his total of 147 strokes (+3), Félix-Antoine Levasseur is in third place.

In the girls' division, Yasmine Qureshi was unstoppable in the second and final round. One shot behind the first-round leader Anne-Léa Lavoie (Lorette) at the end of day, Saturday, Qureshi played par (72) on Sunday. This performance allowed her to take control of the tournament and finish at the top of the leaderboard with a total of 147 shots (+3).

"I didn't expect this! The competition was pretty fierce in the junior category and I'm very happy with the result. I was a little bit nervous today and I wasn't sure how it was going to end. It turns out that I putted really well and that helped me finish in first place," said the player who recorded four birdies on the back nine on Sunday.

Lavoie ended the weekend at +5 (149) to take second place ahead of Isabella Ferguson (Ottawa Hunt, 153). Earlier in the season, Anne-Léa Lavoie captured both the junior and juvenile titles at the Women's Provincial and Junior Girls' Championship before winning the Junior Match Play Championship.

The 2019 Graham Cooke Junior Invitational champions, Logan Boucher (Summerlea) and Laurence Lamer (Rosemère), were not in the game this year after making the transition to the amateur division.

Léonie Tavares and Henry Dao crowned in the bantam category

The battle was just as heated in the bantam category in which Henry Dao (Vallée du Richelieu) and Léonie Tavares (Glendale) finally took the top honours of the division.

It was no easy task for Dao who shot 74 and 72 to finish his tournament at +2 (146), one shot behind the 2021 Provincial Bantam Champion, Emile Lebrun (Île de Montréal, 147).

Lebrun started the event with a round of 69 (-3) but ended the second day of activities at +6 (78). Zach Pageau (Pinegrove) completed the boys' top-3 with a total of 154 (+10).

Léonie Tavares began her weekend with a 75 (+3) on Saturday. The 11-year-old pursued the competition with a round of 82 (+10) to finish her tournament with a cumulative score of +13 (157). She finished ahead of Charlotte Boudreau (Île de Montréal, 162) and Alexandra Botsis (175) to win the Bantam girls’ title.

No less than 147 golfers coming from across the province took part in this year's event.

The Golf Québec team will be back at Golf Château-Bromont in less than three weeks for the presentation of the Bromont Invitational, to be held from September 7 to 9.
