Montréal, September 8 – The Mauricie region made its mark at the 14th edition of the Interregional Championship by taking top honors at the competition held on September 5 at the Du Moulin Golf Club in Trois-Rivières. Thanks to a strong team performance, the region’s male and female junior golfers joined forces to propel the Mauricie region to the top of the standings and etch their names into the record books of this flagship event in Quebec amateur golf.

The Montréal-South region, for its part, won two of the four competitions on the schedule.

Mathis Bourdon and Zacharie Bergeron Smith showed remarkable consistency throughout the day to win the juvenile division. Bourdon and Bergeron Smith quickly took the lead with an eagle on the second hole. With the Vegas Stableford format used for the competition, the duo earned an impressive 6 points on that hole alone.

Bourdon and Bergeron Smith kept up the momentum, adding six birdies to seal the victory with 61 points. Lucas Simoneau and Tristan Martel, representing Mauricie, finished second in the division with 59 points.

Liam Wang and Zhichen Liu, also representing the Montréal-South region, prevailed in the bantam division after a close battle with Abitibi representatives Brayden Morrissette and Charles-Olivier Bourassa. Birdies on each of the final two holes ultimately gave Wang and Liu the win with 59 points, one ahead of Morrissette and Bourassa.

In the pee-wee division, Charles-Élie Doyon and Olivier Lafond, representing Québec City, also captured top honours by a single point. Tied after nine holes with Léo Leclercq and Eddy Gélinas of Abitibi, Doyon and Lafond remained steady on the back nine, recording a birdie on the 17th hole on their way to victory.

Finally, Maïka Trempe and Jennifer Li of Mauricie made the most of their home-course advantage to claim the women’s title. With five birdies during the round, Trempe and Li won with 56 points, ahead of Romy Vigneault and Ellie Bélair, who represented the Saguenay/Lac St-Jean region.

Golf Québec staff will return to the course on September 21 and 22 for the Players of 40 Years Old and Over Championship at Hemmingford Golf Club.
