Montréal, June 23, 2026 – For the first time in the history of the Provincial Indigenous Championship, presented in collaboration with belairdirect, a golfer other than Josh Mayo (Public Golfer Program) has won the men’s amateur division. Philippe Canapé (Public Golfer Program) won the 2026 edition of the tournament on Monday at the Lorette Golf Club.

Canapé played consistently well throughout the day, particularly on the back nine, where he made three birdies to finish at par, 72. He made his fourth and final birdie of the day on the 18th hole to seal his victory.

Meanwhile, Mayo, a three-time Provincial Indigenous Championship winner, still finished second with a score of 76 (+4). After a front nine marked by five bogeys, Mayo began a comeback in the second half of the day, where he made two birdies.

Cyril Ste-Marie, representing the local club, rounded out the top-3 in the category with a score of 81 (+9).

In the women’s amateur division, Sky-Deer Kahsennenhawe (Caughnawaga Golf Club), the tournament’s first-ever female champion in 2023, added a second title to her record by winning with a round of 79 (+7), finishing well ahead of her closest competitor, Angie Marquis, also of the Caughnawaga Golf Club.

In the senior women’s division, Josée L’Écuyer (Lotbinière) defended the title she won last year, while Frank Hervieux (Public Golfer Program) emerged victorious in the men’s senior competition.

Canapé, Kahsennenhawe, and Hervieux also took top honours in the Stableford-format tournaments on Monday. In the women’s senior division, using the same format, however, Hollin Mayo (Caughnawaga Golf Club) emerged victorious over Jennifer Jacobs (Caughnawaga Golf Club) after a playoff. The two golfers were tied at 38 points after the regulation 18 holes.

The Debbie Savoy Morel Cup will be the next competition on Golf Québec’s calendar of events, on June 27 and 28, at Club de golf Le Mirage in Terrebonne.
