Larry Boyle, Maurice Dagenais, and Roger Legault will become the 46th, 47th, and 48th Québec inductees respectively. Details of the ceremony will be confirmed in a future announcement.
Larry Boyle (1934 – 2023)
A member of the Kanawaki Golf Club for 46 years, Larry Boyle served as its president in 1985 and 1986. He also had a career at Concordia University, where he held the positions of Dean of the Faculty of Commerce, Acting Dean, and Director of Student Affairs.
A long-standing volunteer with the Québec Golf Association (GQA), he joined the board of directors in 1982, became a member of the executive committee in 1984 and served as its president in 1989. He also chaired the Montréal Regional Golf Association and headed the Course Rating and Turf Committee.
Within the QGA, he served on the Rules Committee from 1986 to 1991 and chaired it from 1988 to 1991. He helped establish a program of provincial rules seminars designed to support club members, volunteers, and directors in improving their knowledge, complementing the exams introduced by Golf Canada. Larry Boyle led the seminars in English, whilst Roger Legault delivered them in French. In 2000, he served on the Golf Canada Board of Governors; he was also a member of the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame Committee and served on numerous other provincial and national committees.
He also contributed to the establishment, development, and coaching of children of all ages as part of the Future Links program, alongside Maurice Dagenais.
His commitment was also recognized with a plaque presented by the Kanawaki Greens Crew, in tribute to his dedication and support for their work in the 1980s. He also received the Award of Excellence from the Concordia University Alumni Association (1991), as well as Golf Canada’s Award for Distinguished Service.
Maurice Dagenais (1937–2019)
Mr. Dagenais was one of the three founding members of the Québec Golf Hall of Fame. He discovered golf while working as a caddy at the Marlborough Golf Club before joining Club Laval-sur-le-Lac and becoming its captain. His pride at becoming a member of the prestigious Club Laval-sur-le-Lac was matched only by his mission and determination to democratize the sport of golf and make it accessible to our youth.
Through his volunteer work, he served as a referee and sat on numerous Golf Québec committees, of which he was president in 1994. He has also served on the Board of Governors of Golf Canada.
As part of his duties, he served as the non-playing captain at the 1991 Willingdon Cup, where the Québec team emerged victorious. He was president of the 1994 Québec Open and hosted the event in 1994 and 1996 at the Dorval Golf Club, where he was General Manager. He helped establish the first public golfers’ championship tournament in 1995, when the program was still rudimentary. From 1997 onwards, he spearheaded the Future Links program, which aimed to introduce young children to golf, making the sport more accessible to them.
His contribution was recognized by the Montréal Police Department for his social involvement – Youth, in 1995, and Golf Québec awarded him the very first Pierre-Nadon Prize when the recognition was created in 2005.
Roger Legault (1943 – 2023)
An English teacher at Bishop’s University, the University of Sherbrooke, and Cégep de Sherbrooke, Mr. Legault was a member of the Coaticook Golf Club for 3 years (captain), the Sherbrooke Golf Club for 12 years (captain and club director) and, finally, the Venise Golf Club for 31 years (president and captain).
He served as president of the Eastern Townships Regional Golf Association (1980–1984). He began volunteering with the QGA in 1980, joined the executive committee in 1988, and became president in 1990. He served as governor of Golf Canada (1990–2000). He was Vice-Chairman of the Canadian Open at the Royal Montréal (1997) and co-chairman of the AT&T Canadian Senior Open at La Vallée du Richelieu (1999).
A golf referee at provincial, national, and international levels, he officiated at two World Junior Championships in Japan as well as at several Canadian Open (PGA) tournaments. He also served as a presenter at Golf Canada’s seminars on the rules of golf from 1990 to 2002 and co-directed the production of the French-language video on the rules of golf (2001). More recently, he served as an official PGA referee at the Royal Montréal (2014) and was a member of Golf Canada’s Rules Committee from 1992 to 2001.
His contributions have also been recognized with several honours, including his induction into the Sherbrooke Sports Hall of Fame (2020), the Exceptional Service Award to Golf Canada (2012), and the Pierre-Nadon prize (2006).
Larry Boyle, Maurice Dagenais and Roger Legault are being inducted into the Québec Golf Hall of Fame in the Builders category.
About the Québec Golf Hall of Fame
The Québec Golf Association’s Hall of Fame was founded by three past presidents of the QGA, Larry Boyle, Maurice Dagenais and Roger Legault. Their desire was to pay homage to the many great Québec players and builders who have distinguished themselves provincially, nationally, or internationally. A general consultation process began as various groups were asked to identify different personalities who might be honoured. Next, a selection committee was established with a mandate to evaluate the proposed candidates and determine those that would be elected for the inaugural ceremony in 1996.
The 2026 selection committee is made up of five (5) people appointed by the Golf Québec Board of Directors: Marcel Paul Raymond (committee chairman and Golf Québec President from 2014 to 2016), Marie-Thérèse Torti (inducted in 2021), Lisa Meldrum (inducted in 2023), André Maltais (inducted in 2024), and Charlie Beaulieu (President of the Fédération québécoise de golf from 2007 to 2011), one (1) representative of the PGA of Canada - Québec Zone, Guy Faucher, and one (1) member selected by the committee itself, Michel St-Laurent (Golf Québec President in 2001).
