Creation of the Québec Team

Daniel Langevin and Fred Colgan

Montréal, February 20, 2023 – Golf Québec is proud to announce the creation of the Québec team, composed of 23 athletes (12 girls and 11 boys) at the élite, relève and espoir levels.

Led by the Golf Québec Sport Development Director, Patrice Clément, and Head Coach Fred Colgan, the Québec team was developed to support athletes in their overall development, to promote the presence of Québec athletes on national teams, foster collaboration between coaches and, above all, optimize the emergence of talent in Québec.

The Québec team will be supervised by Fred Colgan and supported by Daniel Langevin, Head Coach of the Golf-études program.

One of the objectives of this team is also to go beyond performance and focus on the evolution of each individual athlete as a person, on their health and well-being. "We want the athletes to evolve in a healthy, balanced, and safe environment," says Patrice Clément.

All members of the Québec team, athletes, professionals, and specialists will evolve together in a decentralized context where collaboration will be essential. The program aims to optimize and improve the supervision of athletes by offering support and accompaniment services to athletes, parents, and personal coaches.

To be selected, athletes had to meet the following three selection criteria:

  1.  Be a member of Golf Québec
  2.  Be identified in the federated ranking in the élite, relève or espoir category
  3.  Be engaged in a process of development towards excellence, i.e., training and competition

* In the "espoir" category, the first four boys and the first four girls on the 2022 Provincial Bantam Order of Merit were selected.

A sports medicine camp, led by Fred Colgan and supported by Patrice Clément, was held in November 2022, in Québec City, to get an overview of each athlete’s situation and plan targeted, individual interventions for each of them. Athletes were evaluated on musculoskeletal, nutrition, overall athlete health, commitment, and more.

Throughout the season, the athletes of the Québec team will be asked to compete in specific events and will have to include in their calendars, according to their category, the Provincial Junior and Amateur Championships, the Canadian Junior and Amateur Championships as well as the four Next Gen Championships.

For the time being, athletes are invited to follow up with their own team of specialists, to participate in at least one camp this winter, to work on their physical preparation, and to build their competition schedule for the upcoming season.
