Coming up in July

The competitive season is building up in intensity

Montréal, June 29, 2022 – In July, the competitive season will intensify with more than 30 days of activities for amateurs of all genders and ages as well as for professionals. Local golfers will have the chance to showcase their skills, compete against their peers, and play on some of the most beautiful courses in Québec.

Men's Provincial Tour Presented in Collaboration With belairdirect

Second leg of the men's Triple Crown, the 88th edition of the Duke of Kent tournament will bring together the elite of our amateur competitors at Club de golf Royal Québec on July 4 and 5. Among the players to watch out for is 2020 champion Christophe Sylvain (Lorette) who also etched his name three times on the André Gagné trophy which is awarded since 2012 to the best player from the Québec City region. Winner of the 2017 and 2019 editions, Émile Ménard (Pinegrove) will try to don the emblematic checkered jacket of the event once again.

Since 1909, the Men's Provincial Amateur Championship has been showcasing the best of our homegrown talent. Final leg of the Triple Crown, it will be held at Summerlea from July 11-14. We will have the opportunity to see Malik Dao compete on his home course. A member of Team Canada, Malik will also represent the province at the Canada Games in Niagara, in August.

In selecting our amateur team for the inter-provincial competition presented by Golf Canada at the Canadian Men's Amateur Championship in British Columbia, our Team Canada players will take priority. Should there be any vacancies, the team will be completed by the top players on the Triple Crown Order of Merit.

Women's Provincial Tour Presented in Collaboration With belairdirect

The Women's and Junior Provincial Championship will take place from July 11 to July 13 at the Saint-Jean Golf Club. Élizabeth Labbé (Lorette) and Suzanne Ricard (Royal Montreal) will defend their respective amateur and senior titles won last year. Marlene Desbiens (Murray Bay), the 2022 Mid-Amateur Champion and 2021 Senior Golfer of the Year, will also be in attendance. In the junior and juvenile divisions, we will closely follow Léonie Tavares (Glendale) who, at age 11, was recently appointed to the Québec delegation for the Canada Games as well as Charlotte Boudreau (Île de Montréal), champion of the latest Pee-Wee and Bantam Classic.

In the junior category, Anne-Léa Lavoie (Royal Québec) captured both the junior and juvenile titles in 2021. Her presence is not yet confirmed for this year's competition. However, as a member of Team Canada, she has priority in the selection of the junior team that will represent Québec at the inter-provincial competition presented by Golf Canada as part of the Canadian Junior Girls Championship at Marshes Golf Club in the Ottawa Valley. Her two teammates will be the top competitors on the Girls' Global Order of Merit as of July 15, 2022.

The top three (3) on the Jocelyne Bourassa Amateur Series Order of Merit will represent Golf Québec at the Canadian Women's Amateur Championship in Kitchener, Ontario. Also, the top three (3) on the Senior Order of Merit of the Jocelyne Bourassa Series will form the team that will represent Golf Québec at the Canadian Mid-Amateur and Senior Women's Championships in Manitoba.

Provincial Junior Tour

The Provincial Junior Boys’ Championship will be divided into two categories, the junior players of 17-18 years old and the 16 and under juveniles. The Club de Golf Bic will be hosting a contingent of 156 talented participants for a very competitive event. Félix Bouchard (Vallée du Richelieu/Team Canada), who was crowned at the Amateur Match Play Championship held earlier in June, holds the 2021 Junior title while Guillaume Paquette (Le Blainvillier) won the Juvenile title. However, as their presence is not yet confirmed, all hopes are possible for the young athletes who will travel to the Rimouski area from July 19 to 22.

Royal Québec's young bantam member, Charly Pinel, has already won the Assante Optimiste Classic in May and the Pee-Wee and Bantam Classic in June. Will he be able to complete the hat trick? Jake Houston (Royal Montreal), junior champion of the Assante Optimiste Classic will be in the competition. We will also get to see Mathieu Lafontaine (Summerlea) in action; he is a member of the Team Canada development squad.

Once again, our players who are part of the current year's National Development Squad will automatically be part of the Québec team at the inter-provincial competition presented by Golf Canada as part of the Canadian Junior Boys’ Championship. As there are many players in the 2022 program, our three representatives going to British Columbia will be identified according to their order of selection to Team Canada.

To conclude the month of July, the Québec Games will make a long-awaited return to the provincial sports scene. Young athletes aged 11 to 16 for boys and 11 to 17 for girls, from 19 regions, will compete from July 27 to 30 at the Saint-François Golf Club in Laval in team and individual competitions.

Professional Tour

The Machinex Open, to be held at the Laurier Golf Club in Princeville on July 23 and 24, will launch the competitive schedule of men’s professional events presented by Golf Québec. This tournament will serve as a qualifier for six professional golfers and four amateur players for the Sani Marc - Fenergic Canada Cup. A bye to the Québec Open, the Québec leg of the PGA TOUR Canada calendar, will also be up for grabs for the top non-exempt player in the tournament. Guillaume Vaita will defend his title earned in 2021 with a three-shot lead over his closest rival. Other local players will be in the field, including Keven Fortin-Simard who was the best Quebecer at the Mackenzie Investments Open in 2021.

Many Thanks to Our Partners

Throughout the golf season, the Golf Québec volunteers, referees, and employees will be dressed by adidas. Competitors will not be forgotten as TaylorMade will supply them with the official TP5 and TP5X golf balls in main provincial events.
