It will be action-packed at Le Blainvillier

Mackenzie Tour: first stop in Blainville from July 26 to August 1!

Montréal, Québec – July 7, 2021 – There will be plenty of action at Le Blainvillier Golf Club from July 26 to August 1! No less than 144 golfers are expected to compete on the Heritage Course for their share of the $100,000 overall purse in the 2021 Mackenzie Investments Open, the first stop of the Mackenzie Tour this year.

“We are thrilled to have the event back after the cancellation of the 2020 edition. This tournament always features an excellent calibre of golf performances, and we invite you to come and watch the best Canadian players in action,” said Eric Couture, Tournament Director and Golf Québec's Competition Director, at a press conference held earlier today.

As for Scott Pritchard, General Manager of PGA Tour Canada, he said that he is quite thrilled about the beginning of the 2021 campaign. “We are very excited to launch this golf season in Québec! This would not be possible without our partnerships with Mackenzie Investments, Golf Québec and Le Blainvillier, and we would like to thank them for their dedication.”

Seven must-see days of activities

Le Blainvillier Golf Club will be in tournament mode as of Monday, July 26, with the official practice rounds featuring all participants of the Mackenzie Investments Open.

The first round of the event will be played on Thursday and a cut will be made to keep the top 50 players at the end of the second day of activities, on Friday. The overall winner will be crowned on Sunday after the fourth and final round.

“We are always proud to present this type of event and look forward to seeing the players face the many challenges of our Heritage Course. It offers exceptional playing conditions, and we are sure that it will be a great test for all participants. We hope that many of you will come to support them,” said Gary Lagden, General Manager of Le Blainvillier.

Golf enthusiasts from across the province are invited to attend this tournament for free.

A tournament with a Québec flair

Many of the province's top golfers have already confirmed their presence for the event, including professionals Yohann Benson, Joey Savoie, and Alexandre Ouellette.

Just weeks after winning the first leg of the Québec PGA Professional Tour, Benson will be looking to not only distinguish himself at the Mackenzie Investments Open, but also to share his experience with the various Québec athletes in attendance.

“This is the perfect event to promote golf in Québec and I am grateful for receiving an exemption to participate. It will be a great opportunity to see the up-and-coming players, to measure up to them and see their evolution,” said the man who participated in the 2008 US Open and has acted as a caddy on several occasions on the PGA Tour.

Joey Savoie will also be one to keep an eye on in Blainville as he did very well at last year's Canada Life Series, posting three top-10 finishes to place sixth in the order of merit for this Mackenzie Tour event.

“I'm very happy to be playing this 4-round tournament in Québec! These are opportunities that don't come along very often, but they allow you to move up the ladder and compare yourself to the best players in Canada,” said the La Prairie golfer.

Alexandre Ouellette, a professional from Le Blainvillier Golf Club, will try to benefit from the home-course advantage as he has been playing at these facilities since he was 13 years old.

“Being able to play once again in a tournament like this brings back a lot of memories! It will be fun to compete against the best of our industry in front of our members and fans. I'm looking forward to the event,” he commented.

Another familiar face to Quebecers will be in attendance during the week of July 26, namely former Montréal Canadiens player and member of the Rosemère Golf Club, Donald Audette (amateur).

“I've always been a very competitive person! It's been 16 years since I retired from professional hockey, but the fire still burns inside of me. It's a very exciting challenge for me,” explained the man who holds eight championship titles with his home club.

Pierre-Alexandre Bédard, Max Gilbert, Keven Fortin-Simard, Brandon Lacasse, and Sonny Michaud have also confirmed their participation in this tournament.

Golf Québec Fundraiser Tournament/Pro-Am

New this year, Golf Québec will present its traditional annual Fundraiser Tournament during the Pro-Am on Tuesday, July 27. This is a unique opportunity to enjoy a VIP day with a Mackenzie Tour professional and to test this prestigious golf course in playing conditions adapted to a high-level tournament.
