Montréal-Sud wins the Inter-Regional Championship

Montréal-South delegation

Montréal, September 18, 2017 – In the 7th edition of the Inter-Regional Championship held at the Cornwall Golf Club, the delegation of the Montréal-South region registered a perfect score in the second round. By doing so, they were able to recapture their titles of 2014 and 2015. This event, presented within the Daigneau Eau de Source Provincial Junior Tour, marked the end of the 2017 Golf Québec junior competitive season.

This Stableford competition was divided in two rounds: the first round was played as a two-man Vegas format and the second as a two-man alternate stroke play. The delegations of the seven participating regional teams were composed of six boys (two juvenile players, two bantams, and two pee-wees) and two girls (juvenile, bantam, or pee-wee) of 16 years old and under.

The Montréal-South delegation was composed of Justin Fedele of Whitlock and Hugo Fournier of St-Hyacinthe (juvenile), Félix Bouchard of La Vallée du Richelieu and Malik Dao of Summerlea (bantam), as well as Charles Louchard of La Vallée du Richelieu and Chad Huber of Whitlock (pee-wee). Yasmine Daoud and Emily Romancew, both of the Elm Ridge Country Club, were their female counterparts. The team was supervised by Regional Coach, Benoît Lemieux, and his assistant, Sarah-Andréa Landry.

In the Vegas round of Saturday, the Ottawa region captured the honours in two divisions. In the juvenile boys’ event, Max Dragon of Royal Ottawa and Malcolm Simpson of Rideau View won their competition with an outstanding gross score of 61 (-11). Bantam players, Jake McBride of Kanata and James Newton of Royal Ottawa were also crowned in the Vegas competition. In the pee-wee category, the Ottawa boys, Carter Jarrett of Renfrew and Andrew Milloy of GreyHawk, tied for first with the Montréal-North representatives, Christophe Archambault of Le Mirage and George Siozos of Rosemère. In the girls’ division, Yasmine Daoud and Emily Romancew ranked first and scored 10 points for Montréal-South.

On Sunday, the playing format was a two-man alternate stroke play. The Montréal-South delegation won fair and square in every single category, except for the pee-wee boys who tied for first with the Ottawa and Montréal-North. Each first place was worth 10 additional points for the Montréal-South team that already had 32 points from their Saturday performances. With a total of 72 points overall, they won the Inter-Regional Championship with a 3-point lead on Ottawa that was attempting to defend their 2016 title. The Montréal-North region ranked third with 61 points.
