Montréal, August 26, 2024 – A severe thunderstorm warning forced the interruption of the final round of the Graham Cooke Junior Invitational played on Sunday at Golf Château-Bromont.
With the preventive interruption and the clock ticking down, the decision was made to cancel the second round and use only the scores from the first day to determine the winners. The tie remained at 68 (-4) in the boys' overall category, where a playoff was necessary.
At twilight, Antoine Jasmin (Le Blainvillier/Québec Team) finally got the better of Émile Lebrun (Club Laval-sur-le-Lac/Québec Team) on the second playoff hole after a long putt for birdie.
"We played until the 15th hole today, then there was a thunderstorm, we waited under cover for over 30 minutes, then proceeded to a playoff. This is my last junior tournament, and I'm very proud to end my junior career in Québec with a victory,” said Jasmin.
On the girls' side, Mackenzie Cloutier, also of Le Blainvillier Golf Club and the Québec team, came out on top to win the Graham Cooke Junior Invitational for the very first time in her career, thanks to her first-round 77 (+5).
“I've been taking part in the tournament for four years now, and every year I try to win it. To be able to end my junior career on this note, by finally winning the tournament, feels really good,” she said.
In the bantam category, Lori Rosa (Lanaudière) and Zack Bourgeois (Le Blainvillier) finished the competition at the top of their respective girls’ and boys’ divisions.
Rosa, who was competing on the provincial tour for the first year, was delighted to end the season on such a high note, winning with a first-round 81 (+9).
“Throughout the summer, I worked really hard on my game because this is my first big year of competition. I'm delighted to have won the last Golf Québec provincial tournament of the season”, admitted the winner.
As for Bourgeois, he showed unwavering consistency throughout the competition, being the only player in his category to play under par.
“I shot a round of 68 (-4), which is a really good score. It doesn't always happen and I'm extremely happy with the way I played,” concluded Zack Bourgeois.
The Graham Cooke Junior Invitational was the last provincial junior championship of the year for Golf Québec.
