Montréal, August 16, 2024 – The conclusion to the Men's Provincial Senior Championship presented in collaboration with belairdirect put on quite the show Thursday at the Boucherville Golf Club. Benoit Robert finally won a two-way battle in extra time to claim the coveted title.

 

Benoit Robert, member at the Club de golf St-Hyacinthe, played par (72) in the third and final round of the event to find himself tied at +4 (220) overall with James Woodcroft (Le Blainvillier). The two rivals went to extra time and itw as Robert who came out on top to win his first senior title.

 

“I’m very emotional! It’s quite an experience and I’m very happy. It represents a lot of hard work and perseverance. I was patient, I didn’t give up and I’ve been rewarded!” declared the winner at the end of the day.

 

Marc Massicotte (Vallée du Richelieu) and Danny Turbide (Royale Québec) were also in the running right up to the end of the competition, finishing tied for third place with a cumulative score of +5 (221).

 

Luc Guilbault (public golfer), winner of the last two editions, finished the tournament tied for the fifth place with a cumulative score of +6 (222). He was leading going into the final round, but his final round of 77 (+5) prevented him from claiming his third senior title in a row.

 

No fewer than 120 golfers took part in the event, which once again helped select the three athletes who will represent Québec at the Canadian Men’s Senior/Super Senior Championship, to be held at the Saugeen Golf Club in Port Elgin, Ontario from September 12 to 15 2024.

 

The honour this year will go to Benoit Robert, James Woodcroft, and Danny Turbide.
