The Provincial Finals of the Junior Skills Challenge!
The Provincial Finals of the Junior Skills Challenge visit the
Canada Cup Victoriaville – Fenergic
Montréal, August 8, 2024 – The Québec Golf Federation (Golf Québec) is proud to announce that the Provincial Finals of the Junior Skills Challenge will be presented at the Victoriaville Golf Club August 12th in collaboration with Optimist Golf Junior Région St-Laurent. This competition, open by invitation only, is part of the programme of activities leading up to the Victoriaville – Fenergic Canada Cup.
To obtain a spot at the Provincial Final, majority of the golfers had to participate at an event organized by a club or their regional golf association before July 24th. A total of 34 young players aged 15 and under would have then been selected based on their ranking in the local qualification events. A few exemptions were also granted to the event’s host club, bringing the total number of athletes participating in mid-August to 36.
The girls and boys will be divided into four groups in accordance with their age on August 29, 2024: the 7 to 9 years old, 10 to 11 years old, 12 to 13 years old, and the 14 to 15 years old. They will compete against their peers in challenges covering the three basic skills of golf: drive, approach shots, and putting.
Based on their performances after three attempts in each of the skills, the young athletes will accumulate points which will then be entered in the overall national ranking. The Provincial Final of the Junior Skills Challenge will give them an additional chance to obtain a spot at the National Final of the Junior Skills Challenge presented by Golf Canada on October 5th.
Among those to watch out for in Victoriaville is Ophélie Duguay (Chandler), who took part in the 2023 National Final in Vancouver when she was just 8 years old. We’ll also be able to follow Léonie Plante, representing the host club, who has won the trophy in the girls aged 7- to 9-year-old category. Let’s see if she continues to dominate the competition after making the jump to the 10 to 11 years old. Charles LeSiège (15 years old, L' Assomption), who accumulated 300 points in his local qualification at Le Portage, is 5th on the national leaderboard, 5 points behind 1st place. Eliott Forest (7 years old) from Le Portage, currently ranked 1st in the national leaderboard.
Fans are invited to the Victoriaville Golf Club on August 12th to cheer on our athletes and the stars of tomorrow. Access to the site is free!
