Lise Jubinville and Corey Eccles Provincial Mid-Amateur Champions!

Montréal, June 20, 2024 – Corey Eccles and Lise Jubinville flew through all three rounds of the Provincial Mid-Amateur Championship presented in collaboration with belairdirect to walk away with top honours, this Wednesday, at the Hawkesburry Golf & Curling Club.

Eccles, a member of Royal Montréal, first played par (70) on Monday to open the tournament, before signing two impressive rounds of 68 (-4) and 69 (-3) the following two days and capture the coveted trophy.

His cumulative score of -7 (209) propelled him to the top of the men's ranking ahead of Ryan J. Mitchell (215), also from Royal Montréal, and local club golfer Jeremy Proteau (216).

In the women's division, Lise Jubinville (Hylands) took the lead in the first round with a 78 (+6) and never looked back. She followed up with a 74 (+2) on Tuesday and an 83 (+11) on Wednesday to bring her overall score to 235 strokes and run away with the title.

Elm Ridge's Kushboo Thiagaraj (237) attempted a comeback on the final day of action. Her 73 (+1), the best in the women's competition, was not enough to catch up with Jubinville, however, and she finished two shots behind the winner (237). Suzanne Ricard (Royal Montréal) finished third at +26 (242).

At the end of the event, the Québec mid-amateur teams were named for the inter-provincial competitions to be held later this season as part of the Canadian championships.

Sébastien Levasseur (Ki-8-Eb), Corey Eccles, and Ryan J. Mitchell will make up the team representing Golf Québec at the Carleton Golf & Yacht Club in Manotick, Ontario, from August 19 to 23, 2024. To be eligible, the team must include a minimum of one player aged 40 or over.

On the ladies' side, Gabrielle Davidson (Royal Montréal), Suzanne Ricard, and Kushboo Thiagaraj will be representing Québec from July 10 to 13, 2024, at the Crown Isle Golf Club in Courtenay, British Columbia.

The Golf Québec crew would like to thank the Hawkesbury Golf & Curling Club for hosting this year's event, which proved to be a great success once again.

Two tournaments are on the schedule for next week: the Indigenous Championship, to be held in Kaniwaki on June 25, and the Debbie Savoy Morel Cup, scheduled for June 26 and 27 at Ki-8-Eb.
