Montréal, September 18, 2020 – This year, the Spring Open which normally launches the competitive season in Québec was used to close it at the Beaconsfield Golf Club. Traditionally, this Friday, the best amateurs who are members of Golf Québec competed against an impressive contingent of professional golfers. The event was presented in collaboration with Turkish Airlines and belairdirect under cloudy skies and fall weather conditions.

Defending champion of 2019, the professional Yohann Benson (Club Laval-sur-le-Lac) teed off at 8:00 a.m. this morning. With a score of 67 (-4), he settled very early at the top of the standings. The amateur player Olivier Daneau, also from Club Laval-sur-le-Lac, and golf professional Vaita Guillaume (Royal Québec) eventually joined him in first place. While Daneau's performance earned him the title in the amateur category, the games were far from being played in the professional category.

At about 5:30 p.m., Brandon Lacasse (Knolwton) completely changed the mood by handing out a 65 (-6) card with seven birdies and ten pars. He was followed a few minutes later by Raoul Ménard (Pinegrove) who, by playing -6 as well, once again created a tie in the professional division. A sudden-death playoff was therefore necessary to determine whether Lacasse or Ménard would claim the overall victory and the purse.

Finally, Lacasse pulled through by recording a birdie on the first extra hole while Ménard played the par.

Marc-Olivier Plasse (Pinegrove) finished the tournament in 3rd place tied with Benson, Guillaume and Daneau. The Top 10 of the event is completed by Ryan Sévigny (a) (Eagle Creek), Francis Berthiaume (Valleyfield), Billy Houle (Portage), Loick Laramée (a) (Royal Québec) and Joey Savoie (Pinegrove) who tied for 7th place at 68 (-3).

The Golf Québec team would like to thank the Beaconsfield Golf Club, its General Manager, Kerry Donohue, Head Professional Don Hachey, Superintendent Doug Meyer, as well as their members who made it possible to hold this last event of the Men’s Provincial Tour.

Student sport

While the Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec (RSEQ) just announced the cancellation of university sports for the year 2020-2021, activities continue in compliance with health regulations at the high school and collegiate levels. As a result, we have more than 125 athletes registered in the Golf-études program offered in close to twenty schools. In addition, the Québec Collegiate Tour is about to begin with the first of four events being held this Sunday at the Lac St-Joseph Golf Club.

2020 Fundraiser Campaign
“My golf, my community, and I”

Last spring, the game of golf was put on hold. Several industries were hit hard and the golf industry is no exception. Despite the madness of the pandemic, since the resumption of golf last May, players have returned to the courses in large numbers. We see many new golfers, children and families. This is good for the future of golf.

Golf Québec was instrumental to this recovery and has relentlessly pursued its sport development initiatives despite the situation and financial consequences. However, for these new golfers to continue playing and for Golf Québec to be able to pursue its initiatives in the months and years to come, the financial support of the golf community is crucial.

As part of this fundraiser campaign, the 14th edition of Golf Québec's Fundraiser Tournament will be held on October 5, at Golf Le Mirage, in full compliance with security and gathering measures.

From September 21 at 5 p.m. until October 5 at 6 p.m., it will be possible to bid online on close to seventy choice items in the Golf Québec interactive auction.

In addition, it is always possible to make an online donation to support the federation in its many initiatives for children and families. For every donation of $25 or more, a donation receipt will be issued.

Many Thanks to Our Partners
