Golf Québec relaunches its competitions!

Montréal, June 22, 2020 - The golf season is in full swing. Since the opening of courses on May 20 in Québec and May 16 in Ontario, golfers have been turning out in large numbers and the golf clubs are doing an incredible job at maintaining the prescribed preventive measures and ensuring the health and safety of their customers and employees.

It is now Golf Québec's turn to relaunch its activities. The regional associations will resume conducting local and regional recreational activities and ranking events at the beginning of July. As for the Federation, it is proposing a shortened provincial competition calendar that will begin at the end of July and carry on until September.

"The excitement is at its peak in golf clubs. The pandemic situation is greatly improving and the government is deconfining the sports and leisure sector faster than expected, so it is possible for Golf Québec to review its activity calendar. It is essential for our organization to offer our members and young athletes some competitive activities so that they can pursue their development and, at the same time, ensure the continuity of Golf Québec's traditions. This, of course, in full compliance with the prescribed government measures," mentioned Jean-Pierre Beaulieu, Executive Director of the provincial federation.

The competitions will be held in accordance with the directives set out in the Organization Guide for Golf Competitions. These guidelines may be updated as the situation evolves and new government measures are announced between now and the start of provincial competitions.

At all times, organizers, participants and other stakeholders will be required to ensure that the following measures are maintained:

· Physical distancing.

· Hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette.

· Maintaining sanitization measures for frequently touched tools, equipment and surfaces.

Several other measures will be implemented to ensure everyone's health and safety. Among other things, participants will be encouraged to minimize non-essential stops and get directly to their sport facilities. Once at their destinations, public health instructions must be followed.

The provincial calendar presented in collaboration with belairdirect is, of course, reduced in number of events, competition days and number of players compared to previous seasons. In several cases, the qualifying method for participation has been revised. The Golf Québec team therefore invites tournament players to be vigilant and to consult all eligibility conditions that will be posted on the information page of each tournament. Online registration should open on Monday, July 6.

The Golf Québec team would like to thank all the clubs that accepted to receive us at such short notice despite the circumstances surrounding the relaunch of activities in a COVID-19 context.
