13 Québec golfers at the Mackenzie Investments Open
Montréal, Québec – The Mackenzie Investments Open will take place, in less than two weeks, at the Elm Ridge Country Club in Île Bizard, QC. Golf Québec and the organizing committee of the event have unveiled, this Wednesday, the names of exempted players who will compete in the prestigious tournament from September 2 to 8, 2019.
Overall, 16 exemptions were available for distribution by Mackenzie Investments (2), Golf Canada (2), the PGA of Québec (5), and Golf Québec (7). Thirteen of them were awarded to Québec players.
This large contingent of golfers from La Belle Province will provide our local talents with an exceptional opportunity to showcase their skills. “They are a good mix of seasoned golfers and rising stars. Some of them are in the process of joining a tour. This will be their chance to shine and prove that they deserve a place on the Mackenzie Tour,” explained Éric Couture, the Golf Québec Tournament Director.
“Many talented golfers will be representing the province in the Mackenzie Investments Open. We are looking forward to seeing them perform well and hopefully make the cut in the tournament,” added Éric Couture.
Considering their excellent performances in the Canada Cup, which was held last week, the names of Vincent Blanchette and Raoul Ménard were added to the group of exempted players. “They have been playing very well these days and we hope that they will maintain their pace in two weeks from now,” mentioned Éric Couture.
At the Canada Cup, Blanchette came very close to achieving a common goal of playing 59 in one of the championship rounds. It turns out that he played 60 one day to eventually rank third with an overall score of -22.
Recently back to the competitive world, Keven Fortin-Simard will also be in the field at the Elm Ridge Country Club. Sixth at the Bromont Invitational, he tied for third with Blanchette at the Canada Cup.
A star amateur golfer of the past years in Québec and a Team Canada member since the past five years, Hugo Bernard will also be in attendance. Up to this day, he still holds the tournament record of the Provincial Junior Championship in which he played 271 (-17).
Another high-profile participant to announce is Yohann Benson who made a comeback in the province in 2019. The Québec player dominated the competitive stage from the beginning of the season as he won the Spring Open, Bromont Invitational, as well as the PING and BPG Championships. He also ranked sixth in the recent Canada Cup.
With twelve days left before the first player tees off for the prestigious event, everyone is getting quite excited. “We are truly honoured to be host to this tournament. This is a very renowned tour and we felt that it was very important to maintain the presentation of this event in the province, both this summer and in the coming years. We hope that many will follow it with great interest beginning on September 2,” concluded Éric Couture.
Up to now, the list of exempted players includes:
• Billy Houle
