More on Team Canada

Montréal, November 16, 2018 – It is with a sizeable dose of emotion that Golf Québec read the national announcement on the composition of the 2019 Team Canada amateur and junior squads. Out of 17 exceptional athletes selected throughout the country, we are extremely proud to say that six are from Québec. This will be one of the largest provincial contingents on Team Canada since the national program was implemented.

In the Amateur Squad, we will get the opportunity to follow Brigitte Thibault of Club Laval-sur-le-Lac as well as Joey Savoie of Pinegrove who renewed his participation on Team Canada for a second year.

From February through early June, Céleste Dao and Christopher Vandette of Summerlea, Laurent Desmarchais of La Vallée du Richelieu, as well as Olivier Ménard of Whitlock will be part of the Junior Squad based out of Golf Canada’s National Training Centre at Bear Mountain Golf Resort in Victoria. For a second year, the program has provided centralized training, accommodation and education for athletes during their high school second semester. Team members will be immersed in a focused centre of excellence, surrounded by world-class technical coaching staff and experts in the areas of mental performance, physiotherapy, biomechanics and nutrition.

“For many years now, Golf Québec has been investing massively in its provincial junior golf development programs, including Golf-études. The selection of four of our best young Québec golfers to join the national Junior Squad is one of most tangible proofs that our initiatives are successful,” mentioned Jean-Pierre Beaulieu, Executive Director.

The following athletes have been selected to Team Canada for 2019:

· Brigitte Thibault, Rosemère, QC, Club Laval-sur-le-Lac (19)

· Joey Savoie, La Prairie, QC, Pinegrove Country Club (24)

· Céleste Dao, Notre-Dame-de-l’Île-Perrot, QC, Summerlea Golf & Country Club (17)

· Laurent Desmarchais, Longueuil, QC, Club de golf La Vallée du Richelieu (17)

· Olivier Ménard, Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, QC, (18)

· Christopher Vandette, Beaconsfield, QC, Summerlea Golf & Country Club (17)

More good news could come our way as the 2019 Team Canada Young Pro Squad athlete selection is expected in December.
